The 2014 Dongseo University entrance ceremony was held on February 25th at the Minseok Sports Center. This year’s event attracted particular interest given the special attention paid to entering students by President Jekuk Chang together with the Deans of each academic division. In a traditional show of humility and dedication, the leading university administrators ceremoniously washed the feet of some newly entering students.
A jovial spirit surrounded the entire opening event. At one point in the ceremony, Student Council Chair Il Yeong Cho gave flowers to Freshman Representative Chang Hyun Oh, lifting and embracing him to offer congratulations on his entrance to Dongseo University.
Freshmen in attendance solemnly promised to fulfill their visions of “BDAD” (Before Dongseo, After Dongseo). Su Jin Park, a student majoring in Design, shared her personal vision of BDAD at the ceremony. She said, “I will strive to concentrate on developing my English skills until graduation. I’m also planning to participate in global volunteering programs. By developing my abilities and personal qualities, I’ll become a global advertising designer.”
BDAD is an educational philosophy representing DSU’s commitment to helping each student, regardless of his or her background, lead successful lives. In this regard, President Chang encouraged the entering freshmen to have confidence in themselves and in their creative abilities to meet new challenges. He also emphasized the continuing importance of social responsibility and commitment.
