Students in the DSU Fashion Design program received top honors at the 1st annual Concept Korea Fashion competition, which was jointly held by the Korea Creative Content Agency and the Korea Fashion Industry Institute. A total of 127 works were submitted to the evaluation committee, with only 13 pieces selected for the final.

Winners of the competition were announced on January 17th at the Korea Broadcasting Institute in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul. Dongseo University’s Fashion Design department was well represented with 3 of its students receiving recognition.

Jang Ki-beam, a DSU Fashion Design student, was awarded the first prize, worth two million won, as well as a plane ticket to attend the Concept Korea display in New York City during Fashion Week. Two other Dongseo students were also honored with prizes. Fashion Design major Jeong Seon-moon was awarded two million won for second place and Fashion Design major Bak Ki-eon received a third place award of five hundred thousand won.

Jang Ki-beam took inspiration from Korean history stating, “I came up with the idea for my project from the Turtle ship and used a patchwork technique. Therefore, my work looked very hard, adventurous and challenging. I believe that is the reason why I received high praise from the evaluation committee.”

The winners said they were very proud of their accomplishments and echoed each other stating, “We are so happy that the prizewinners were all DSU students. We deeply appreciate the fact that renowned fashion designers evaluated our works and judged them worthy of recognition. We are proud that our works are going to be displayed for two weeks in February during the New York Fashion Week.”

Lee Seok-tae, a member of the evaluation committee, said “The winners are very talented and I saw their great potential. I can see a bright future in Korean fashion design through them.”
