The 2013 Asia Summer Program concluded with a grand farewell ceremony held in the Sohyang Art Hall at DSU’s main campus on July 26th. Among the distinguished guests in attendance were the Presidents and Vice Presidents of many participating universities. The ceremony involved a conferment of certificates to ASP participants for successfully completing the program as well as several performances, including one by the DSU Samulnori club.

The first Asia Summer Program was hosted last year by Petra Christian University in Indonesia with students and professors participating from the 5 founding institutions. This year, the ASP was hosted by DSU with roughly 350 students participating from 27 universities in 11 countries. The program offered 25 intensive courses taught in English in a variety of fields including film, IT, and social issues relevant to Asia. Students also enjoyed many cultural activities and formed many international friendships. Next year, Universiti Malaysia Perlis will host the third Asia Summer Program.

Nearing the end of the farewell ceremony, the ASP flag was passed by President Jekuk Chang of Dongseo University to Vice Chancellor Kamarudin Hussin of Universiti Malaysia Perlis to signify the change of hosts. This was followed by a spectacular performance of traditional Malaysian dances by visiting UniMAP students. In his closing remarks, President Chang encouraged the ASP participants to continue seizing opportunities to excel not only locally but also globally. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining and expanding international networks in the Era of Asia.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in ASP 2013 and congratulations to Dongseo University on its successful hosting of this incredible international program!
