With much praise and congratulation, Dr. Chang Jekuk was inaugurated as the 7th President of Dongseo University (DSU) on March 7th. Holding his hand to the Bible, the new president took the official oath of office, saying "I swear with the utmost solemnity that I will carry out my duty sincerely as President while complying with all regulations and striving to realize the founding principles of our university.” President Chang is an expert of international relations who gained vast experience while obtaining a doctorate in law from Syracuse University in the U.S.A and a doctorate in politics from Keio University in Japan. He is expected to play a large role in DSU’s becoming known as a global university.
He said at the inauguration: “I am standing here today, on the cusp of entering spring after a long winter, with my heart all aflutter. I am sincerely thankful for God’s blessing to be granted the honor of being President of Dongseo University…. [Dongseo’s] history, which literally involved the creation of greatness from humble beginnings, is the result of the continuous prayer, effort, and sweat of Dr. Chang Sung Man and Dr. Park Dong Soon. I want to express my deepest respect and gratitude again to their lifetime efforts.”
President Chang proposed five goals to be achieved over the next four years. First, he will make Dongseo University an institution where dreams students once thought were impossible, can now come true. Second, he will turn the impending educational crisis into a creation of opportunities. Third, he will make the development of Dongseo University the driving force of regional development. Fourth, he will work to make our university a place in which every single person becomes happy through communication. And, lastly, he will establish a new, paradigm-changing education system uniquely suited to Dongseo University.
Many distinguished speakers participated in the inauguration ceremony held at Dongseo’s Sohyang Art Hall, including President of Pusan National University Kim Inn Se, President of Keio University Seike Atsushi, Vice President of Zhongnan University of Economics and LawChen Xiaojun, CEO of the Busan Daily Newspaper Kim Jong Ryeol, Congressman Kim Jung Hun,Chang Je Won, Director of the Sejong Foundation Kong Ro Myeong, and President of Hope International University John Derry, who said in his speech that “we are very lucky to receive Chang Jekuk as the president of DSU as he has a comprehensive academic background and is creative and future-oriented.
