Three Dongseo University works were selected as winners in the prestigious 2018 Red Dot Awards (Communication Design). The capstone design works are the result of collaboration between students in the College of Design and students in the Department of Computer Engineering. Dongseo University has now had a total of seven works selected as Red Dot Award Winners, with one or more winners in four consecutive competitions since 2015. The Red Dot Design Awards are one the world’s three major design competitions, which also include IF in Germany and IDEA in the USA. The Red Dot Awards have a long history and tradition that began in Berlin, Germany in 1955. In the 2018 competition, over 8,600 works were presented from 45 countries around the world.

For DSU, this year’s four selected works were created through the capstone design course Ideation Practice; the course advisors were Professor Moon Mi-kyeong (Computer Engineering) and Professor Ryu Do-sang (Design College); the course was part of the educational program of the LINC+ project business group. One prize-winning work was Safety Hologram (Hyundai Motors), a safety hologram to prevent accidents by Wee Seung-hyeon and Lee Hyeon-woo (Computer Engineering) and Kim Seong-jae and Han Ji-ah (Design College). Another work was Feel the Music Vibrating, a vibration sensor for hearing-impaired dancers by Kim Do-hyeon and Park Hyeong-kwon (Computer Engineering) and Lee Se-myeong and Lee Yoo-jin (Design College). The third prize-winning work was Lock & Roll (Lotte) by Shin Min-ho and Lee Ho-seop (Computer Engineering) and Yoon Ji-hoon and Kim Kyu-ri (Design College).

"I am so happy that our idea was recognized by judges at the Red Dot Awards,” said Kim Seong-jae, a senior in DSU’s Design College. “I am glad that I have achieved one of my goals in college life.”

“Ideation Practice and the integration of computer engineering and design has allowed us to derive a variety of new ideas,” said We Sung-hyun, a senior in the Department of Computer Engineering. “We have been able to produce more integrated results of development and design.”

The Red Dot Design Awards Gala Show will be held on October 26 in Berlin, Germany. In addition, the award-winning works will be published in the 2018 Red Dot Communications Design Yearbook and will be released worldwide both online and offline.
