Students Sweep Awards at the 2nd Real Media Contents Competition

Two teams from DSU’s Digital Contents department received the Grand Prize from the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future planning as well as the Excellence Award from the Gyeongju Smart Media Center.

 

The 2ndReal Media Contents Competition was held recently under the auspices of the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, Gyeongsangbuk Province, Gyeongju City and the Institute for Information and Communications Technology Promotion.At the awards ceremony held on May 19, two teamsfromDongseo University’sDigital Contentsdepartmentwon, respectively,the Grand Prize, which included a3 million woncash prize from theMinistry of Science, ICT and Future Planning,and theExcellenceAward, which included a1 million woncashprizefromthe GyeongjuSmartMediaCenter.

 

Realistic content is content that overcomes the constraints of space and time, provides a feeling of presence and immersion, and stimulates the user's five senses to enhance the rapport between people and technology.The2ndRealMediaContents Competition was held for the purpose of popularizing realistic media andexpandingitsbase,as well assecuring a variety of realistic contents. Among the 96 entries, the prize winning works wereselectedbased onscenario evaluation and finished product evaluation.

 

Based onthe DSU Digital Contentsdepartment’s vast and growingVR(virtual reality)technology and infrastructure, the award winning teamswere able to make their VR video contents with the support oftheCK-1(University for Creative Korea)andtheimagination project.In particular, theseawards areexpected to broadenDongseo Universitystudents' awareness of and participationin future contentsprojects and competitions, both in Korea and abroad.

*Grand prize (Title: Wanted): Choi Jun-young (Senior from DSU’s Digital Contents department), Kim Soo-kyung (Senior from DSU’s Digital Contents department), Park Tae-hyun (Junior from DSU’s Digital Contents department), Chung Chan-ho (Team leader of Smit Studio) and Kim Mi-jin (academic adviser)

 

*Description of work: 360 degree animation. The hero is a young man in his twenties. He invites a friend to his grandmother's house. They go to the grandmother’s house during the holidays by bus and the hero sees a poster at the bus stop. The poster mentions large prize money for catching a cute looking fish. The hero and his friend decide to try and catch the fish. What will happen on their journey?

 

*Choi’s award acceptance speech: First of all, I am honored to receive this great prize. I would like to thank our team members and the Smit Studio members. Also, I wish to extend many thanks to all the people who contribute their passion daily for the development of realistic contents. Despite the fact that ours was a much lacking work, there was a positive outcome, so I think that our hard work showed through. We faced many difficulties but we did not give up and we encouraged each other. To solve the many problems, we were up all night for many days. I will continue my studies and challenge myself so that in the future I can again seize such a great opportunity as this. Thank you professor for helping us!

 

*Excellence award (Title: Let’s Fly!): Bae Gyeong-tae (Senior from DSU’s Digital Contents department), Kim Jun-hyung (Senior from DSU’s Digital Contents department), Jeong Sang-hwa (Sophomore from DSU’s Digital Contents department), Yoon Tae-soo (academic adviser)

 

*Description of work:360 degree video. The concept of the work is “Scenery of Busan seen from a gull's eyes.” It is aimed to promote Busan to people who are not familiar with the city. This work introduces Busan’s sightseeing spots and many beautiful areas, all by showing video captured by drones. Therefore, with drone-captured video viewers are able to experience views that cannot be experienced in daily life.

 

*Bae’s award acceptance speech:I am very pleased to receive this award. I wish to thank the team members who have worked hard to make this work together. I have learned that to complete one work, many people have to put in effort and time so even though it is only one work, it is very important for them. We will continue to work hard to make our university a leader in the real contents field. I also want to thank our professor who helped us and supported us during the production.
