Dongseo University President Delivers Keynote Address at ICT Forum and Attends Completion Ceremonies in Lithuania

Dongseo University President Jekuk Chang and DSU Chief of Future Strategies Kenneth Hahn visited Lithuania from June 19 to 21. President Chang participated in the ICT Forum, where he delivered the keynote address; he also took part in the completion ceremony for the first semester of the Vilnius King Sejong Institute; and he took part in the completion ceremony for the Digital Contents Field 2+2 program between DSU and Mykolas Romeris University.

 

At the ICT Forum, President Chang delivered a keynote address entitled “Landscape of the Digital Contents Industry in Korea and Cooperation with Lithuania”. In his address President Chang noted, “In 2018 the Digital Contents market size will reach 3 trillion 148 billion dollars. In order to succeed in this market, ideas should travel across borders and should be globalized.” In addition, he said, “We have to pursue technological development through cooperation at the global level. This is a time when international joint research is desperately needed and when the paradigm should shift from limitless competition to unlimited cooperation” President Chang emphasized the importance of developing “talent that can be used anywhere around the world. Through global education and creativity gained through international knowledge, a variety of liberal ideas and new experiences should be fostered.”

 

On June 21, the DSU-operated Vilnius King Sejong Institute held a completion ceremony for its first (2016) semester. Dongseo University granted completion certificates to 89 local students who have learned Korean language and culture. DSU had received approval for the Vilnius King Sejong Institute in 2014 from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and from the New King Sejong Institute DesignationEvaluation. In 2015, DSU also received approval for the establishment of a King Sejong Institute at Petra Christian University in Indonesia. Dongseo University runs the two foreign King Sejong Institutes, whose mission is to spread Korean language and culture. President Chang described the local Lithuanian atmosphere on Facebook. “I am encouraged to see that that higher education and cultural exchange connecting South Korea and Lithuania are proceeding actively,” he noted. “Korea is very popular here.”

 

Also on June 21, President Chang attended the completion ceremony for the two-year Digital Contents 2+2 Dual Degree Program at Mykolas Romeris University. According to a 2013 double degree agreement, students study two years at Mykolas Romeris University, followed by two years at Dongseo University; upon completion students receive two degrees, one from Dongseo University and one from Mykolas Romeris University. In all, 15 students from Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) will come to Dongseo University in September to get major in-depth education in Digital Contents for their third and fourth years of study.
