DSU students Park Tae-su, a senior in Tourism Management, and Song Chenge, an exchange student from Shandong University in China, won the Excellence Award at the Korea-China FTA Opportunity UCC Video and Photograph Contest, sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy.

The theme of the contest was, “This can work in the Chinese market,” and the item they presented was titled, “Mak-tail” (makgeolli + cocktail). This aims to suit the recent Chinese trend of consuming low alcoholic content beverages, which was influenced by the Chinese “My Car Culture” as well as the health-conscious culture of China. Since the target was young Chinese couples, the team promoted the drinks as being similar to wine, giving them high-class appeal.

The video clip created was a one minute advertisement, demonstrating the strong points of this product.

Park said, “It was a special experience preparing for the contest with a Chinese student. I didn’t have any problem interacting with her since Chinese culture is similar to Korean culture. Also, it was a big advantage that we could view the task with a different perspective.”

Song said, “It was a special experience for me to take part in a contest in South Korea. Preparing for this contest was a good opportunity to gain knowledge about economic issues such as the Korea-China FTA.”
