Forty-four Chinese students have arrived from Shanghai University of Engineering Science to study for one year at Dongseo University. According to a shared “3+1” program in which participants study for three years in China and one year in Korea, these 44 students will spend the next year receiving intensive multimedia education and staying in the international dormitory building. In the first semester, the Chinese students will take 5 courses (14 credits) in Korean, 3D Image Design, Digital Media Design, Digital Image Design, and Digital Media Engineering.

The partnership between Dongseo University and Shanghai University of Engineering Science has grown stronger over the past 14 years. In diverse fields of study, the Korea-China “Joint Multimedia Education Curriculum” has achieved great success, with 700 Chinese students having participated in this curriculum so far. The “Joint Multimedia Education Curriculum” first started with 50 students in September of 2003, increased to 70 students in 2010, and included 100 students in 2011. Due to administrative issues, the number of participants has decreased this year.

On March 4, DSU held the “2016 Shanghai University of Engineering Science Joint Education Curriculum Welcoming Ceremony” in the International Seminar Room of the U-IT Building and promised to support the students during their time at Dongseo University.

President Jekuk Chang said in his welcoming speech, “During your stay at DSU, we will offer you the best support we can. I hope your time in Busan will be among the most valuable experiences in your life.” President Chang went on to say, “The Design field at DSU is top in Korea. I hope you will gain a lot of knowledge about design and build broad professional networks with the friends you make from Korea and other countries. Your stage is not only Shanghai, but the whole world!”

Vice President Cho Jeoung Sung, who is also Chair of the Design College, said “Dongseo University is currently implementing fusion educational methods that have never been tried before in Korea. While you study at DSU, I hope you will try to combine studies in your major, multimedia, and other fields.”

Director Tang Youchun, who led the students of Shanghai University of Engineering Science, said, “We are grateful to DSU for providing great educational and dormitory facilities and for taking care of our students. I hope the students from Shanghai will think deeply about how to combine Korean and Chinese cultures while staying in Busan.”
