Dongseo University and China’s Suning Universal Group to Collaborate in Joint Development of Contents Production and Technology

On March 11,DSU President Jekuk Chang and Suning Universal Group CEO Chen Liangsigned a Memorandum of Understanding onindustrial cooperation at the Paradise Hotel in front of Busan’s scenic Haeundae Beach.According to this agreement, DSU and Suning will build an internationalindustrial cooperation system and jointly produce contents in diverse fields such as Film and Video, Animation, Computer Graphics, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Game.

 

 

Contents such as animation, virtual reality and games, all produced at Dongseo University, are expected to be easily absorbed into the huge Chinese market through Suning’s infrastructure. Suning, a major Chinese private enterprise with 100,000 employees, does business mainly in entertainment, electronics distribution, property development, and e-commerce. Last year, it was ranked 13th on the “Top 500 Chinese Private Enterprises” list.

 

 

Regarding the field of new media, Dongseo University and Suning Universal Group agreed to collaborate to accomplish their “Global New Media Initiative,” which is a multidirectional cooperative vision that targets Asian markets including Korea and China. For these kinds of contents production, “Suning-DSU Universal Hub,” a smart media service platform, will be established. Both sides also agreed to cooperate fully in technology development and manpower training in the contents field.

 

 

The development goals of Dongseo University, which is matchless in the fields of film and video and of design contents, and those of Suning Universal Group, which is expanding its contents-oriented business, have aligned to produce this opportunity for a close cooperative system.

 

 

At the agreement ceremony, nine executives represented the Suning side, including Chen Liang, CEO; Zheng Jun, Inspector General of Film Business Department;Zhu Di, Inspector General of Public Affairs;Chen Zhengfeng, Vice-President of Hongman Shanghai Science and Technology Corporation; and Zheng Mianrong, ExecutiveDirectorof Red Rover(an animation production company).

 

 

Discussion Meeting between President Jekuk Chang and Chairman Zhang Guiping of Suning

 

 

Two days before the agreement, on March 9, a discussion meeting was held at theConrad Hotel in Yeoido, Seoul. President Jekuk Chang of Dongseo University,Chairman Zhang Guiping of Suning, Representative Ha Hoe Jin of Red Rover, and officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism took part.

 

 

At the meeting, President Chang said, “DSU specializes in Film and Video, Digital Contents, Design, and ICT, and it has the best infrastructure in Korea for supporting entrepreneurship. The collaboration between DSU and Suning is a win-win proposition.”

 

 

Chairman Zhang Guiping said, “Suning is pushing forward with industries in finance, health, and culture for the next generation. Suning is planning to invest five hundred million to seven trillion won over the next three years in these three major strategic industries. It is also going forward with a cooperative business in the contents field with Korea.”
