On August 26, the welcoming ceremony for the 2016 Korea-China New Media Institute Joint Education Program was held at Dongseo University’s Sohyang Art Hall. The Korea-China New Media Institute, a joint education program between Zhongnan University of Economics and Law in Wuhan, China and Dongseo University in Korea, is the first such enterprise between a Korean and a Chinese university to have received official ratification from the Chinese Ministry of Education. Chinese students enrolled in the joint program study Korean language basics during their freshman and sophomore years in China. They then complete their junior year in Korea at DSU’s Digital Contents Department before returning to China for their senior year. Of the 265 third Chinese students who were being welcomed at the August 26 ceremony at Sohyang Art Hall, 129 are majoring in Animation and 136 are majoring in Digital Image Production.

Dr. Kim Jung Sun, Dongseo University’s second Vice President, spoke to the Chinese students at the welcoming ceremony. “All of you will receive in-depth education,” she told them, “under highly skilled professors, in an advanced educational environment with ameticulousadministration. You may experience times of hardship during your time studying at DSU, but I hope you will overcome those by remembering your dreams.”

Fang Yuxin, a student majoring in Animation, said, “I have loved Korean history and language for a long time. I’m grateful for this opportunity to come to Korea. I will try to experience not only my major but Korean culture as well.”

Fan Xuanbo, also majoring in Animation, is finally getting a chance to study abroad. “I’ve always wanted to make new friends and experience a new culture,” he said. “I want to gain knowledge and have experiences that will help me throughout my life.
