The Korea-China International Education Institute, co-founded by Dongseo University and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL) in Wuhan, China, has grown rapidly over the last five years. The Institute was established in Wuhan on October 14th of 2011, with 150 students in attendance at the opening ceremony. Currently, there are 1,005 students majoring in Visual Arts and Animation at the Institute, which operates on a 3+1 system whereby students spend their first three years studying at ZUEL and then complete their studies during a final year of advanced courses at DSU.

DSU President Jekuk Chang and ZUEL President Yang Canming hosted a meeting of the Institute’s Board of Directors on September 24th, at which approval was granted for changing the name of the Institute to “Korea-China New Media Institute.”

The decision to change the name was made to eliminate confusion arising over the Chinese-language version of the name, which suggested the Institute was primarily involved in teaching Korean. Additionally, the Board of Directors resolved to develop the Korea-China New Media Institute into one of the most advanced institutes for digital contents education as well as to promote its special Media Lab. They also agreed to establish the “Korea-China New Cultural Research Center” (a tentative title), which will create new stories and contents by blending Korean and Chinese cultures.
