Dongseo University has been named as an “Excellent University” in the 2024 evaluation of Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) host institutions, organized by the National Institute for International Education (NIIED) under the Ministry of Education. The distinction was highly selective, as Dongseo was one of only nine out of 88 nationwide GKS host universities to be recognized for its outstanding academic quality and systematic support for international students. The other institutions selected were Ajou University, Dong-A University, Yonsei University, Kyung Hee University, Kyungpook National University, KDI School, Kyungbok University, and Daegu University.

The GKS program, overseen by the Ministry of Education and NIIED, is Korea’s main international scholarship initiative designed to attract talented individuals from around the world. It offers full scholarships that allow international students to pursue higher education and research in Korea. Universities selected as GKS Excellent Institutions receive the “GKS Excellent University Certification Mark,” officially highlighting their excellent support for foreign scholars in academics, administration, and student life.

In particular, Dongseo University achieved perfect scores across all required evaluation indicators and was especially recognized for its cultural and student life support as well as career and employment assistance for GKS scholars.

Currently, Dongseo University hosts over 1,800 international students from more than 60 countries, including 115 GKS scholars who are fully funded by the Korean government. To enhance student success and well-being, the university continues to expand tailored programs such as Korean language training, cultural education, career and lifestyle counseling, and community engagement initiatives.

Recognized for its strong global competitiveness and commitment to international student support, Dongseo University has also been selected for the “Glocal University 30” initiative by the Ministry of Education. Building on this, the university aims to establish an innovative educational model that connects local and global communities, promote joint international academic programs, and strengthen cooperation with overseas partner universities. The ultimate goal is to nurture “glocal leaders in a global society.”
