Im Kwon Taek Film Archive and Research Center Publishes Two Books

Dongseo University’s Im Kwon Taek Film Archive & Research Center has published two books containing the philosophies of 21 experienced Korean film makers.

The Im Kwon Teak College of Film & Performing Arts operates a Master class that allows students to gain experience and knowledge through the invitation of experts in each aspect filmmaking. Since 2008, this class has been taught by a total of 53 film specialists. The Im Kwon Taek Film Archive & Research Center records all lectures in order to share them with future students and intends to publish a series of Master class books to aid in promoting movie research and education more widely.

The lectures of 21 filmmakers along with transcripts based on question-and-answer periods with students are included in the two books, Direction Lessons of 10 Film Directors (I) and Direction Lessons of 11 Film Directors (II). In the books, directors including Bae Chang Ho, Lee Myung Se, Chung Ji Young, and Im Kwon Taek, who have directed a combined total of 101 movies, share their philosophies and knowhow. Each director has between 30 and 50 years of experience. Also included are entries from a younger generation of directors including Ryu Seung Wan, Song Hae Seong, Chang Yun Cheol, and Lee Jeong Beom, who reveal their own youthful thinking and strategies that are influencing a new generation of movie makers.
