New faces have appeared on campus this fall semester with international students from around the world entering Dongseo University. The 107 international students from 14 countries have great ambitions, a deep devotion to their studies, and a strong eagerness to build social networks.

A large majority of the newly admitted international students are from China. Of the 74 Chinese students, 29 are Master’s students, 17 are exchange students, 16 are language students, 7 are Ph.D. students, and 5 are undergraduate students.

China is of great importance to the Korean economy, and August 24th of this year marked the 20th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and China. The trade volume between our two countries has rapidly expanded, reaching $245.6 billion in 2011, with over 6 million visitors traveling between Korea and China.

Other Asian countries which sent students to Dongseo University include Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Myanmar, Taiwan, and Vietnam. Having international students from these countries reflects the growing importance of Dongseo University and of Asia generally.

Of the students joining Dongseo University from Europe, 8 are from Germany, 2 from Russia, and 1 from Poland.

The Office of International Cooperation held two orientation sessions for the international students on the 30th and 31st of August to help them adjust to campus life at Dongseo University.
