Five project proposals from Dongseo University were selected by University for Creative Korea (CK), an organization jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea for the purpose of supporting higher education.
University for Creative Korea was formed by the government to consider the specific demands and features of local communities and then promote differentiation among universities through reform. This project will provide 203.1 billion won in support to local universities (CK-Ⅰ) and 546 billion won to capital-region universities (CK-Ⅱ), investing a total of 1.2 trillion won over five years.
Through CK, Dongseo University will receive 4.9 billion won from the government over the next 5 years, which will help to increase its differentiation. The financial support DSU will receive is by far the largest amount granted to the private universities in Busan, Ulsan, and the Gyeongnam Province.

The Ministry of Education selected 342 project committees from 108 universities. The implementation plan was announced last February and the submission period ended in April. A total of 989 project proposals were submitted by 160 universities of the 195 4-year universities in the country. Then, over a period of two months beginning in May, CK finalized the selection process through quantitative assessments of the universities and their projects proposals utilizing a Fairness Verification System.
It is noteworthy that Dongseo University’s International Film Industry Promotion Proposal was the only regional strategic project to be chosen in the field of Digital Contents and Film among the southeastern private universities. The project involves advancing international academic cooperation through a Film Cluster located at DSU's Centum Campus in Haeundae and at the Korea-China International Education Institute in Wuhan, China. The objective is to train talented individuals with a creative mind, technological skill, and a global mindset who can promote Busan as a city with a distinctive film industry.
President Jekuk Chang said, “Dongseo University has been differentiating itself for several years, and it is rewarding to see our efforts acknowledged through the selection by University for Creative Korea. DSU will continue to train talented individuals who can contribute to regional industries and economic development.”
