The 2010 Minseok Festival was held on May 12th & 13th. A lot of Dongseo students gathered in the new DSU Stadium and enjoyed a wonderful time together. There were performances from school clubs as well as from famous entertainers. In addition to music, the clubs sold a variety of delicious dishes to students.

On the first day, the festival opened at 4:30 P.M. Dongseo’s rock band ‘Alive’ sang songs and had a great performance. Then followed the performance of ‘Midi Mix’, and ‘Unplugged’ who presented very creative and fresh music to the audience. After the musical performances, a Taekwondo demonstration was presented in which wood panels and tiles were broken with bare hands. While the audience watched the demonstration, they must have felt pride in Korean martial arts. There was also a dance performance by U.C.D.C. of the Girls’ Generation’s song ‘Way to Go.’ Their dancing was so fantastic that it aroused loud applause from the audience.

But the day’s highlight was ‘Dongseo’s Miss & Mister Contest.’ Everyone was excited by the 10 students’ participation. They showed off their individual skills in incredible dance moves, singing, and comic acting. All of them looked so brilliant. The judging committee decided on the ranking and the first ranked student was from the Division of Computer and Information Engineering, a man disguised as a girl.

Next, it was ‘Public Proposal Time.’ A man sang a song and proposed to a woman with a bunch of flowers. She acted very surprised, but finally accepted his proposal. He even kissed her on the forehead. Everyone congratulated him on the successful proposal. It was a very beautiful scene.

The last program on the first day was Black Queen’s and 8eight’s performances. Black Queen, a girl group, attracted people’s attention very much. 8eight is one of the most outstanding music groups in Korea. The audience cheered as they appeared on the stage. They sang four hit songs of their own. Their performance was very exciting and passionate.

On the second day, too, it was exciting and fun. The first program was a wonderful performance by students majoring in Musical Performance. They sang songs from the film “High School Musical.”

Next was DSU Song Contest. It was divided into two parts. After part 1 of the song contest was finished, a group of bodyguards appeared on the stage and presented martial arts moves. There was even a magic show presented by guest magicians. Then, suddenly the fireworks began to be displayed. It lasted for a whole five minutes. Everyone cheered enthusiastically, looking at the night sky shining with fantastic fireworks. Finally Kim Tae Woo, a famous Korean singer, arrived. A great cheer went up from the crowd, and all the people gathered around him.

Dongseo students enjoyed the festival with all their hearts and looked happy like the bright fireworks in the night sky. The Minseok Festival is no doubt a symbol of Dongseo students’ youth, hope, freedom and passion.
