Dongseo University's Asia Future Design Institute became an official member of the SDSN (Sustainable Development Solutions Network) on April 19, 2021. DSU’s approval as an official member was a recognition by the SDSN of the university’s efforts to implement the UN-led SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). This marks the eighth time that a Korean institution was named as an official member of the SDSN, following Korea University's OJEong Resilience Institute (OJERI) and the KDI Center.
The SDSN, founded in 2012 by the Secretary-General of the United Nations with experts from higher education institutions around the world, has offices in New York, Paris and Kuala Lumpur. In addition, there are more than 1,000 organizations from 40 regional and national networks working together to promote practical solutions to achieve the SDGs as well as to implement the Paris Climate Agreement. The SDSN encourages an integrated approach to the economic, social and environmental problems facing the world by working closely with UN-affiliated organizations, financial institutions, private enterprises and civil society.
"I hope that our membership in the SDSN will serve as an opportunity for Dongseo University to promote the 17 SDGs to create a sustainable society together," said Jang Ju-yeong, director of the Asia Future Design Institute." She added that “as a member institution, we will engage our students through design activities, find practical solutions to problems through design approaches to various social and environmental problems, and communicate our findings to the region and the world."
