Dongseo University students have won numerous national and international awards in the field of advertising in recent years. On the national stage, DSU student teams have been awarded six ministerial prizes over a period of five consecutive years at the Korea Design Exhibition. On the world stage, DSU students have received awards at prestigious international competitions, including 13 prizes at Germany’s Red Dot Awards, two Finalist distinctions at the New York Festivals, one Finalist distinction at the Cannes International Advertising and, recently, the Silver Prize at the CLIO Awards.
Many of DSU’s prizewinning works were developed through collaboration between design students and computer engineering students for a capstone design course called Ideation Practice. Professor Ryu Do-sang (Design College) and Professor Moon Mi-kyeong (Computer Engineering) teamed up to develop the course as part of the LINC+ convergence education program. Professor Cho Dae-soo, who heads DSU’s LINC+ Business Project, has given the Ideation Practice course preferred status, vowing to provide continued support for it in the future.
Dongseo University students and their works honored on the world stage include:

Son Young-min, Im Soo-bin, Park Ga-bin, and Kim Min-seok (Title: Animal Guardians)

NEW YORK FESTIVALS – Finalist: Animal Guardians
Description:
Animal rights groups rescue, treat and return to their habitats about 10,000 injured wild animals every year. They send these animals back into the wild wearing the Animal Guardians sensor. The sensor detects the high levels of carbon monoxide from a wildfire and delivers the location of the fire to the National Fire Agency.
Award Acceptance Speech: Son Young-min
I am grateful to be honored at the New York Festivals, one of the world's top advertising festivals. Our team selected forest fire damage as a problem and came up with an idea for detecting forest fires early to solve this problem. Thanks to Professor Ryu Do-sang and Professor Moon Mi-kyeong for broadening our horizons by helping us to look at these problems in new ways and to come up with creative ideas.
CANNES FUTURE LIONS, NEW YORK FESTIVALS – Finalist: Wego
Description:
You can build Legos in a virtual space. By connecting the joy-cons of the Nintendo Switch to a round plate and stacking bricks, you can create a new virtual Lego. When you play, the background appears randomly and one keyword appears. The AI and you take turns stacking up to create a new type of Lego using the keyword. By sharing the Lego created in this way with the community, you can compare different creative approaches to the same keyword and broaden perspectives. Wego will create an opportunity for children to unleash their infinite creativity with unrestricted bricks in a virtual space.
Award Acceptance Speech: Im Soo-bin
I'm glad that the ideas I've worked hard on with my team members have led to good results in international advertising festivals. Thank you to the team members and the professor who taught me.
CLIO Award – Silver: Bruised Doll
Description:
Verbal abuse can cause serious damage to a child's brain. Most verbal abuse directed at children comes from parents. Often parents do not recognize the negative impact of their angry words. Thus, we tried to solve this problem by using a companion doll which children take everywhere with them. The doll is equipped with Samsung AI technology which recognizes parents' voices and, when the parents’ speech becomes abusive, blue bruises suddenly appear on the doll's body and face. Seeing this, parents can immediately recognize the hurtful nature of their speech, reflect on the experience of their children, and ultimately improve their parenting habits.
Award Acceptance Speech: Yoon Ji-hye
I've always been vaguely envious of people who win awards. This project started as part of a class, and I'm deeply moved because I didn't think I would win an award at the prestigious Clio Advertising Festival. Thank you so much to the professor who taught me.
