The theme of the 2024 AUPF was "Strategic Alliance Among Asian Universities in Higher Education." During this year’s forum, concrete measures were discussed to realize a new paradigm for cross-border higher education institutions, and Asian higher education leaders expressed agreement on various forms of cooperation programs to respond to the rapidly changing higher education landscape.
Asia Alliance University Unanimously Approved
Notably, the Asia Alliance University (AAU), proposed by Dongseo University, was unanimously approved during the forum, with many Asian universities expressing their intention to participate. Starting in 2025, detailed operational plans and reviews of inter-country regulations will be undertaken, with the goal of starting operations in the second half of 2025.
The AAU’s mission will be to build a collaborative network among Asian universities through the development of an open online education platform and the sharing of educational content.
Closing Ceremony
The closing ceremony included the adoption of the AUPF Busan Declaration, which reaffirmed the commitment to building a platform for practical exchanges and cooperation between universities in Asia, in line with the era of increased connectivity and collaboration among Asian universities. The closing ceremony also featured the handing over of the AUPF flag to the 2025 host university, China’s Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, as well as a commemorative photo session. In his closing remarks, Dongseo University President Jekuk Chang stated, “This initiative signifies the establishment of a new platform through the alliance of Asian universities in response to the rapidly changing higher education environment.”
