Dongseo University Becomes an "Icon of Higher Education Innovation" through Strategic Partnership with the U.S.-based Minerva Project
Dongseo University has entered into a strategic partnership with the Minerva Project—the innovative organization behind Minerva University, renowned as an icon of global educational transformation. This collaboration marks a bold step forward in adopting a future-oriented education system that transcends traditional university frameworks. It will serve as a key driver in realizing Dongseo’s vision of becoming Asia’s No. 1 institution in cultural content education
Headquartered in San Francisco, the Minerva Project partners with institutions worldwide to create interdisciplinary curricula enriched by cutting-edge technology, shaping the future of global learning. Notably, Minerva University has maintained the No. 1 position in the World’s Universities with Real Impact (WURI) rankings for the past four years, outperforming leading universities such as MIT, Stanford, and Arizona State University. By restructuring traditional lecture formats and replacing physical campuses with a “global rotating campus” and the interactive online learning platform Forum™, Minerva has redefined higher education. Its model bolsters critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative skills—with remarkable outcomes: 95% of students complete internships, and over 90% go on to work at global companies or pursue graduate studies.
Dongseo University has already pioneered experiential, field-based learning models like Global Experiential Learning Sites (GELS) and the In-school Field System (IFS). Building on this foundation, the new partnership aims to advance learner-centered educational innovation more boldly and systematically—an approach traditionally challenging within formal higher education structures.
A central outcome of the collaboration will be the design and implementation of the core educational system for the "Stellar College of Arts" (tentative name), slated to launch in 2027. This new college will merge three specialized colleges within Dongseo—namely, the College of Design, the Im Kwon Taek College of Film and Arts, and the College of Media and Content—into one. It aims to deliver Korea’s premier education in design, film, and media content, focused on nurturing interdisciplinary creative talent suited for the AI era. Dongseo plans to leverage this initiative to restructure curricula, establish strategic academic operations, and develop a sustainable educational feedback system—creating an adaptive, future-ready model of education.
To celebrate the collaboration, Ben Nelson, Founder and CEO of Minerva University, visited Dongseo University on August 12 to sign the agreement. On August 13, he gave a special lecture to faculty leaders and staff—fostering deep alignment with the new educational vision and philosophy. Nelson emphasized, “This partnership with Dongseo University represents a pivotal step in integrating innovative education models into the future of higher education in South Korea.”
President Jekuk Chang commented, “This partnership will be the defining turning point for Dongseo University in achieving its vision of becoming Asia’s number one in cultural content. We are committed to boldly introducing new educational methods and systems unseen before, overcoming the limitations of traditional higher education, and driving transformative innovation.”
