Honorary Degree Awarded to Chancellor of Josai University

On September 29th, DSU granted an honorary doctorate degree in business administration to the Chancellor of Josai University Educational Corporation, Noriko Mizuta, at the International Seminar Room in the Minseok Library. The degree was awarded based on excellent management skills and contributions to the development of Josai University (JU) and Josai International University (JIU). Also recognized were contributions to both regional development and the globalization of education over a twenty-five year career.
Born in Tokyo, Japan, Noriko Mizuta completed her bachelor’s degree at the Tokyo Woman’s Christian University and her graduate and doctorate degrees in American Literature at Yale University. She was a professor at Marymount University and at the University of Southern California. After returning to Japan, she became the Vice President of JU, the President of JIU, and is currently the Chancellor of Josai University Educational Corporation, a position she has held since 2004. A top-ranking feminist scholar in Japan, she also contributed to establishing the Japanese Association for Feminist Studies.
During the ceremony, President Park Dong Soon said in her address, “Chancellor Noriko Mizuta has contributed to the development of education throughout her lifetime. Notably, she is developing JU and JIU into global universities with her outstanding management. She is an educator who is always ahead of her time.” Chancellor Noriko Mizuta said in her acceptance speech, “I’m honored to be awarded this honorary doctorate degree from Dongseo University, a school which has grown rapidly. I hope the cooperation of our universities fosters talent in leading globalization.” After receiving her honorary degree, she gave a lecture on “Talent in the Age of Globalization.”
