Central Academy of Drama for Joint Musical Program

Dongseo University announced on the 8th that it will collaborate with Central Academy of Drama, China’s most prestigious university in the field of performing arts, to cultivate global musical talent.

The university stated that on the 6th of May, it held a signing ceremony in Beijing, China, to establish a joint musical major program with the Central Academy of Drama, widely recognized as China’s top institution for film and acting education. The ceremony was attended by key representatives from both universities, including Dongseo University President Jekuk Chang and Central Academy of Drama President Xu Yongsheng.

The newly established collaborative program will operate under a 1+3 academic structure. Students selected for the program will complete one year of liberal arts and foundational major courses at the Central Academy of Drama, followed by three years of advanced major studies at Dongseo University.

In addition to musical theater education, the two universities agreed to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, including student exchange programs between the two institutions, joint Korea-China short film productions, and broader collaboration across arts and cultural disciplines.

President Jekuk Chang stated, “Through this agreement, we have established an educational cooperation system that will allow talented Chinese students to study musical theater at Dongseo University and advance onto the global musical stage.” He added, “As we have formed a partnership with China’s leading arts university, we will continue to expand cooperation into other fields such as film and acting.”

Meanwhile, the Central Academy of Drama, located in Beijing, China, was founded in 1950, with its origins tracing back to the Lu Xun Academy of Arts established in Yan’an in 1938. With over 80 years of history, it is recognized as one of China’s foremost institutions for training actors and performing arts professionals.
