On October 8th, Dongseo Educational Foundation held an opening ceremony for its new Sports Complex and Student Plaza, which will be jointly used by Dongseo University (DSU), Kyungnam College of Information and Technology (KIT), and Busan Digital University (BDU).
Participating in the opening ceremony were the Founder of Dongseo Educational Foundation, Dr. Chang Sung Man; Chairman of the Board, Song Jung Je; DSU President Park Dong Soon; Vice President Chang Jekuk; BDU President Choo Man Seok; and KIT President Hwang Il Joo. Various faculty members from all three schools and all student council parties were also in attendance.
President Park Dong Soon dedicated a plaque of thanks to Choi Young Kook, President of Cheongmok Construction Company, and to Kim Myung Kun, President of Daum Architecture, for successfully completing such excellent educational facilities. Later in her speech she said, "First of all, I thank God for the completion of the beautiful Sports Complex and Student Plaza. I would especially like to thank, DSU Vice President Chang whose ideas have been widely applied in building these facilities. Also, I’d like to thank Prof. Kim Sung Il, the Director General of Construction Headquarters. It was through his dedication that our original ideas came into fruition.”
DSU Student Council President Jeon Young Pyo, who helped to cut the tape at the opening ceremony said, "Before the Sports Complex was built, this area was used as a parking lot. But now, after turning that space into a clean sports field and also providing a wide variety of convenient facilities, it will always be much easier for students to get together and better enjoy their university life."
Intended to be fully integrated into and support all main aspects of university life, including club activities, exercise, relaxation, employment consultation and student council activities, the Sports Complex and Student Plaza is a four-story building (with a two-story basement). On the upper level, artificial grass of an international standard, a urethane track and 1,646 seats in stands were added so that students can enjoy various sporting activities and competitions using high-quality facilities.
In order to best meet students’ requirements, offices and centers directly related to student services such as the Office of Student Employment & Welfare and the Center for Global Human Resources Development were all moved to the first floor. Offices of the Student Council, the Club Federation, and thirty-five other clubs were also relocated there. This floor additionally includes a convenience store, cafeteria, book cafe, billiard room, cinema zone, and nail art store in order to provide a relaxing and joyful atmosphere for students.
Finally, the Entrance Examination Office, the Public Relations Office and a parking lot are on the 1st basement floor, while a food court with restaurants is on the 2nd basement floor. An escalator connects all floors to each other. Located in the center of campus, the Sports Complex and Student Plaza will be open not only to students and staff, but also to local residents.
