On October 22nd, Dongseo University (DSU) and Kyungnam College of Information & Technology (KIT) held an opening ceremony for the newly opened Global Village, a high tech complex to be used by DSU, KIT, and local residents. Global Village is a new and modern building which includes a dormitory, a fitness center, lecture rooms, and offices.
The founder of the Dongseo Educational Foundation, Dr. Chang Sung Man; Chairman of the Board, Song Jung Je; DSU President Park Dong Soon; KIT President, Hwang Il Joo; Busan Digital University President, Choo Man Seok, as well as various faculty members from all three universities, local residents, and students participated in the ceremony.
Prof. Kim Sung Il, the Director General of Construction Headquarters said, "The Global Village is the biggest of the forty buildings that comprise DSU and is the biggest single complex of all university buildings in Busan. It is an up-to-date structure in which eco-friendly systems are incorporated into every part of its construction.
Founder Chang said in his address, "Jurye is very much an education area. It has elementary, middle, and high schools in addition to the three universities that are located here. There is no similar concentration of educational establishments in the whole country. Moreover, the Global Village has a global outlook and is envisaged as a place where international visitors will be coming and going, learning, and training. But, we are sorry for the inconvenience caused to local residents by the constructionwork, and we thank them for their patience and understanding.”
Busan Council Member Oh Bo Geun said in his congratulatory speech, “DSU is something we are very proud to have in our area. And we are particularly grateful for the completion of the Global Village, which will greatly improve local residents’ welfare.”
Global Village is a mammoth, twenty-story complex (with a one-story basement). The cost of construction was forty seven billion six hundred million won, and it took thirty months to construct.
Included inside is Global House (a dormitory), which supports the globalization of DSU and KIT by providing accommodation for one thousand and eight students. The twin style structure also boasts remarkable architectural beauty.
A sports center is also included. There is a swimming pool, a large sauna, a fitness center, and a cafeteria, all of which are open to local residents as well as to students. The swimming pool has five lanes, each twenty five meters in length with a depth of 1.3-1.5 meters.
Finally, the Division of Social Welfare, the Division of Tourism, the Departments of Architectural Design, Architectural Engineering, Health Administration, Radiological Science, and Dental Hygiene have all been relocated to the Global Village.
