The Korea-China International Educational Institute is a cooperative effort of DSU and ZUEL to train university students in global leadership. Construction of the institute, located on the ZUEL campus, began 5 years ago. The Korea-China International Educational Institute will play an important role as Dongseo University’s campus in China, representing the global strength of Dongseo University.

About 200 guests from China and Korea participated in the opening ceremony, including Dr. Chang Sung Man, Founder of Dongseo Educational Foundation, Dr. Chang Jekuk, President of Dongseo University, Dr. Park Dong Soon, Chair of Dongseo Educational Foundation, Mr. Xu Dunkai, Secretary of the Party Committee of ZUEL, Mr. Wu Handong, President of ZUEL, and Mr. Xu Jinshan, the Deputy Director-General of Hubei Provincial Department of Education.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chang Jekuk, President of DSU said, “Five years of effort by DSU and ZUEL have born fruit.” He went on to say, “I was deeply impressed by the well-constructed facilities on this beautiful campus. Today’s event is especially meaningful because we have overcome many obstacles to get ratification from the Chinese government.”

He added, “I am confident of the joint university’s success, considering the potential power of the two universities. We expect that cooperation between the two universities will contribute to developing talented, internationally skilled individuals who will lead East Asia. We will endeavor to make this joint university provide opportunities for students from both countries.”

The President of ZUEL, Wu Handong, said, “The opening ceremony of the Korea-China International Educational Institute was made possible by the efforts of both universities. The completion of this building not only improves the educational environment of the joint project, but also fosters international cooperation between two universities.” He added that he will do his best to nurture international and professional leaders through this project.

This joint university was officially ratified by the Chinese Education Ministry, and it recruits only students who have passed the Chinese Scholastic Ability Test. One hundred and fifty Chinese students enrolled in September and are currently studying at the Korea-China International Educational Institute. They take mostly art and design based classes such as video game production and animation. These subjects will be taught by professors from DSU, while cultural subjects will be taught by professors from ZUEL.

The 4 year curriculum consists of 3 years in China and 1 year at DSU in Korea. The students will spend their freshmen and sophomore years at the Korea-China International Educational Institute in China and their junior year at Dongseo University in Korea before returning to China to complete their senior year. Students who successfully complete the program will receive a joint degree from the two universities.

DSU students who study at the institute will spend one or more semesters learning about China's economy, culture, society, and language. Through this educational experience, DSU students will be prepared to become global leaders.

The opening ceremony concluded with a special musical performance offered by the DSU music department. The performance celebrated “a night for friendship between Korea and China.”
