Members of Dongseo University’s (DSU) Department of Fashion Design have returned from a successful fashion show and exhibition in Indonesia.
Kim Soon Gu, a professor of the Department of Fashion Design, and Park Ye Na, Heo So Yun, and Lee Min Hwa, seniors majoring in fashion design, visited Surabaya in Indonesia for five nights and six days from December the 7th to the 13th, 2011. The fashion show, held in Citra World Shopping Center, celebrated the establishment of the Department of Fashion Design and Business at Ciputra University, and allowed the university to acquire advanced fashion technology from DSU’s Department of Fashion Design.
Although many other fashion shows were held simultaneously with DSU’s fashion show, it was the only one that received a standing ovation. The president and members of the faculty of Ciputra University remarked, that the DSU students’ fashion show was more impressive than other professional designers’ shows, and the president presented them with gifts.
DSU students also held a competitive photo exhibition of models wearing their garments, while Professor Kim Soon Gu was involved in many additional activities throughout the five-day show, such as evaluating a batik draping competition and attending a Korean culture and fashion talk show. The event was reported in the most influential local media in Indonesia, such as the Java Pos and Surabaya News.
Professor Kim said, “Our show was held with a flourish in a large shopping mall during the Christmas season, so there were a lot of spectators. European tourists expressed great interest and took Dongseo University’s contact details. The local fashion show will establish a long-term cooperative relationship with the Indonesian fashion industry and it will help to attract excellent students to Dongseo University.”
