Over the last month, student volunteers in the Dongseo University International Tech Corps visited 6 villages near Surabaya, Indonesia. The send-off ceremony for this year’s volunteers was held in the lobby of DSU’s UIT building on July 30th.
The 19th annual DSU International Tech Corps comprised 28 students led by Professor Yang Chang Jin, Professor Kim Sung Kyum, and Baek Woon Yong. The team from Dongseo University volunteered together with students from Indonesia, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Japan and Taiwan.
The DSU team worked on a variety of projects including helping to install solar-powered streetlamps and wind-power generators. They also helped perform maintenance for drinking-water supply systems and for incineration facilities. In addition, the team helped improve villagers’ living conditions by repairing infrastructure such as buildings and roads, teaching villagers how to make soap, and entertaining villagers with water rockets and K-Pop performances.
The presence of 10 seniors from Dongseo University who visited Indonesia and supported the team’s efforts made this year’s volunteering mission particularly special.
DSU President Jekuk Chang encouraged students at the send-off ceremony saying, “It’s a wonderful experience to help others, and I hope volunteering abroad will benefit all of the students involved in their future developments.”
