The 19th graduation ceremony was conducted at DSU’s Sohyang Art Hall on February 13th. In attendance were Dr. Chang Sung Man, Founder of the Dongseo Educational Foundation; Dr. Park Dong Soon, Chancellor of the Dongseo Educational Foundation; Song Jeong Jae, Chairman of DSU; and Dr. Jekuk Chang, President of DSU. The graduation ceremony was also attended by family members, relatives and friends who came to congratulate the graduating students.
Graduating in the ceremony were 6 Doctoral students, 103 Master’s students and 2173 Bachelor’s students. Among the degree recipients were 58 foreign students who successfully completed post-graduate studies at Dongseo University. Also, 35 students were recognized for completing the Business Management Course for Executives.
During the ceremony President Jekuk Chang addressed the graduates saying, “May God bless each of you and guide you as you start the long journey of life. I feel very thankful to the parents who have entrusted their sons and daughters to DSU. We have striven to help them find their calling though our founding philosophy based in the Spirit of Christianity.”
He went on to add, “You need to continue to study, even though you have now graduated. Before going to bed, compare today to yesterday. If you believe that it was not better, do all that you can to make improvements.”
Founder Chang Sung Man expressed words of encouragement and congratulation to the graduates. He also explained that he has known many people who have succeeded and many people who have failed in their life. He offered the following insights to the students.
First, a person with clear values who continually pursues their aims will succeed, whereas someone without clear values and goals typically will not.
Second, a person who looks to the future and plans for the future will do well. We must not be misled by the promise of an easy path to success, for true worth is measured in years, not days.
Third, we must be considerate of others. Take care of your family, friends and neighbors. Treat them as you wish to be treated, consider them an extension of yourself. Success is not an individual event. A successful person has the support and respect of others.
Fourth, we should make smart decisions. Candy tastes sweet, but harms your health. Medicine is bitter, but aids you. To be successful, you must make the right choices even though they may be hard.
Dr. Chang Sung Man concluded by saying “God bless you. I wish you all the best of luck in future.”
Ryu Hye Jin, an International Business and Commerce student at DSU who received the Founder’s Prize said, “After enrolling at Dongseo University, I was able to gain extensive knowledge through the variety of programs available at DSU. I was led by my professors who always guided me in the right direction. The knowledge I acquired has provided me with the skills needed to get a job at Busan Bank, and I plan on being a financial specialist who can help our nation grow and succeed.”
Lee Hye Lim, a DSU Animation and Visual Effects student who received the President’s Prize said, “I never expected to be the recipient of such an honor. I am very happy. Receiving this prize feels like compensation for all of my hard work over the past 4 years. I will continue to do my best to contribute to the development of Korean Digital Contents. Thank you so much.”
DSU students are taking the world by storm, spreading their knowledge and skill while exhibiting exceptional character on a global level. Congratulations to all of the graduates!
