The first BDAD English Essay Contest was held on Wednesday, October 30th, following a series of workshops held during the previous week. The contest and workshops were organized by the Office of Foreign Professors at Dongseo University to offer students opportunities to improve and demonstrate their English writing proficiency.
Seventeen students entered the contest, with the top five entries receiving recognition. Honorable mention certificates were issued to Haymanot Shemelis and Kim Han-sol, both from the Department of International Studies at DSU. The third prize, worth 100,000 won, was awarded to Tsatsral Baatar, a senior in the Department of International Studies. The second prize, worth 200,000 won, went to Lim Seang Heng, a junior in the Department of Film & Video, and the first prize, worth 300,000 won, was won by Miyata Vladimir, a senior in the Department of International Studies. All of the awards were presented by DSU President Jekuk Chang at a ceremony held on November 7th in the Student Plaza.
The general topic of the contest was “Before Dongseo After Dongseo” and participants were asked to write an essay explaining “How Dongseo University helps me create my bright future.” Some of the most prominent themes included the large international community, the world class standard of education, and the outstanding facilities at DSU.
A similar series of workshops focusing on presentation skills is currently underway at Dongseo University, with a BDAD English Presentation Contest scheduled to be held on November 27th.
