After the spectacular opening ceremony at the Centum Campus on July 8th students began their intensive studies in a variety of fields. Some examples of courses offered include “Asian Communication Systems,” “Introduction to Asian Cinema,” and “Gender, Culture, and Society: Asian and Global Perspectives”. Students have also been participating in many cultural activities and building international friendships. Below are some of the participants’ perceptions of their ASP experience so far.

Turahit Choovet, Naresuan University, Thailand
I was impressed by the convenience and innovative nature of DSU facilities. The staff are friendly and helpful. People around DSU are nice, and they communicate with us in English and Korean. I’m glad to be here, and during the 2013 ASP I expect to improve my English proficiency, learn about various cultures and build global networks. Thank you.

Emellyn Yamamoto, Josai International University, Japan
My reasons for participating in this program are to improve my English skills, get more knowledge, and make friends from many Asian countries. Now I feel that I’m improving my English. The course 'Innovation and Economy' is helping me to get more knowledge and to be a good business woman in the future. I’m enjoying all of the activities that I’m doing in this program. This Asia Summer Program is a really good chance for students to be more open-minded and to get new ideas for a better life by sharing experiences.

Yuan Pu, Anhui University of Science and Technology, China
First of all, thank you very much for your warm welcome. DSU is wonderful, colorful, and has good facilities. And the staff and volunteers are very helpful and friendly. A few days ago, I lost my meal card, my room card and my student ID card. Some Korean students helped me to transfer some money. This is the first time I’ve come to Korea. I’m so lucky and make many friends with students from other countries. Everything here makes me want to stay long time. We are so excited every day. If I have another chance, I will go to Busan one more time with my little sister. Thank you.

Colleeb M. Serrano, Bicol University, The Philippines
We from the Philippines think that DSU is a brilliant school with its state-of-the-art facilities, advanced technology and excellent education system. That is why it is one of the top ranking schools in the world I think. It has been a great privilege for me to be a part of this activity program.

Henny Septiva Tansy, Petra Christian University, Indonesia
For me, Dongseo is the best university that I’ve ever been studied at. The place is very comfortable and the people are also very kind. Hopefully people from other countries may enjoy studying here too. I hope to get more knowledge, meet many new friends and experience various cultures.

Dhurga Vilashiny and Vanessa Lusus, Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Malaysia
My goals in the ASP are meeting people from various backgrounds and cultures and having a better understanding of their way of life. I was pretty awestruck and fascinated by DSU’s facilities and also amazed by how friendly Korean people are. I feel very welcome wherever we go.

Lukas Borusevicius, Mykolas Romeris University, Lithuania
As we arrived at the airport, we were kindly greeted. Staff and volunteers are really helpful here and they are also well prepared for everything, even very little details. I’ll admit that it’s really hard for us to arrive here 7700 km from my home. I have been communicating with students from other cultures I had never experience in my life. It is very interesting. I’m getting used to it and I’m excited to find out more. Thank you so much for this opportunity.
