Dongseo University is specialized in Film, Digital Contents, IT, and Design, and DSU is committed to strengthening its infrastructure and offering innovative educational opportunities to its students.
Recently, the Im Kwon Taek College of Film & Performing Arts moved from DSU’s main campus to its Centum Campus in Haeundae. The state-of-the-art facilities at the new location are home to the departments of Film & Video, Musical Theatre, and Theatre & Film Acting. Also, being ideally situated in close proximity to the Busan Cinema Center, the Busan Cinema Complex, and the Busan Community Media Center, the Centum Campus offers many opportunities for collaboration.
Each year the Im Kwon Taek College of Film & Performing Arts hosts the Asian Film Academy (AFA) together with the Busan International Film Festival and the Korea Academy of Film Arts. It also operates the Dongseo Media Center, which provides students with access to top-of-the-line film and video making equipment. Students also benefit through workshops led by Korean and international invited guests, which are designed to enhance the students’ practical and performance skills, offering them customized education through a ‘Self-brand’ program. Other aspects of the curriculum include internships in which students may participate while attending classes as well as special ‘Master Classes’ involving lectures presented by Director Im Kwon Taek and other renowned members of the film community.
Two additional important features of the new campus are the Im Kwon Taek Museum of Cinema and the Sohyang Theater. The museum houses many videos, music recordings, costumes, and movie sets collected from various periods in Director Im Kwon Taek’s prolific film career, beginning in the early 1960s. The Sohyang Theater is an ultramodern arts center capable of showcasing performances from various genres. Its reputation in the community is growing after recent performances of popular musicals such as “The Three Musketeers” and “Chicago.” The theater also has a cinema system and will serve as a venue during the Busan International Film Festival.
