The founder of Dongseo University, Dr. Chang Sung Man, again awarded large-scale scholarships for teenaged heads of the family.
The event took place in the conference room on the sixth floor of the Minseok Library on October 17th. He granted a scholarship with a value of 500,000 won along with private property worth 40,000,000 won to 80 students living in the northern areas (Sasang-Gu, Buk-Gu, Gangseo-Gu) of Busan. In 2007, he awarded a scholarship worth 1,000,000 won with private property valued at 100,000,000 won to 100 needy students in Busan. Dr. Chang has granted scholarships to students every year for the last twenty years through the Korean Community Research Center, which he founded.
When he was 15 years old, Dr. Chang’s father died and he experienced all kinds of trials as a young person living in poverty. He grants these scholarships to encourage those who face similar trials. He said, “You’ll have to endure various adversities, but don’t despair. Go forward with big dreams. Then, you will certainly find your way. I hope you study hard in your adolescence days because there are a lot of universities that support tuition and living expenses now.” Seo Han Kyum, a student at Kumgok Middle School, said, “I appreciate your generosity. I will really study hard and become a respectable person so I can help the poor as you have.”
