Brain Korea (BK) 21 is a national human resource development program which fosters tomorrow’s leading researchers. Recently, three project teams from Dongseo University received top appraisals. The first team, led by Professor Lee Hun Jae, is working on “Development of a Wireless Sensor Network for Applied U-Healthcare;” the second, led by Professor Lee Byung Kuk, on “Cutting Edge Visual Contents Technology Development;” and the third, led by Professor Kang Bum Kyu, on “Eco Design Human Resource Development.”

The teams received top recognition in each of their respective fields in the annual BK 21 project appraisals conducted by the National Research Foundation of Korea. The “Wireless Sensor” team was awarded top honors after having submitted the best proposals among nine groups being evaluated in this field; the “Visual Contents Technology” team competed and beat out three other teams; and the “Eco Design” team was top in its field of two entries. Due to these results, the three project teams received an additional incentive; offering a group funding for the year’s planned working expenses.

The Foundation evaluators explained that “the three DSU teams displayed outstanding research records and presented high employment rates. For this reason, they received the best assessments in the annual evaluation.”

The project operation period for the three BK teams is seven years, beginning from 2006. During this period, funding will be allocated as follows: one hundred thirty million won for the “Wireless Sensor” team, one hundred seventy million won for the “Visual Contents Technology” team and one hundred million won for the “Eco Design” team.
