Thirty-nine student teams participated in a start-up program spanning 3 months.

Dongseo University operated a program called “Start-Up Practice: Pioneering the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” which began in December, and received 180 million won in support funding. The program gave students the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial talents through start-up experience. The closing ceremony for the program was held in the U-IT Building on March 6.

The scale of funding for program has increased each year. In 2015, it received 140 million won, and in 2016 it received 150 million won. The current program ran from December 2017 through March 2018. From December 9 to 13 a total of 39 teams numbering 150 students were selected to take part in the three-month program. The students followed two tracks: the first involved idea generation, and the second involved creating a business model.

Following the opening ceremony on December 19th, a virtual crowd funding contest was held on December 21 and 22 at the start-up camp in Gyeongju’s Hanwha resort. Each of the 39 teams specified its ideas on the online crowd funding platform to raise investment. Afterwards, from January 5 to 19, an exhibition, a market survey and special start-up lectures were held. With this project, Dongseo University once again reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the spread of innovation through start-up culture.

DSU Vice President Cho Jeung Seong said, “I would like to congratulate our enthusiastic students who participated in the start-up program over the past three months. Their hopes and ideas are inspiring.”

In total 136 students from the 39 teams received a certificate at the closing ceremony. Four students who were selected did not complete the program.

Hong Ye-jin, a student in Dongseo’s Advertising and Public Relations department who participated in the program, said “I thought lightly about the program at its start, but as it progressed through each step of the process (start-up camp, special lectures, mentoring, etc.) various items started to materialize and I had positive ideas about starting a business.”
