On August 9, Dongseo University representatives participated in an opening ceremony for the King Sejong Institute at Petra Christian University (PCU) in Surabaya, Indonesia. DSU President Jekuk Chang, the Korean Ambassador to Indonesia Cho Tae-young, the Director of the Korean Cultural Center of Indonesia Kim Seok-gi, and the President of PCU Rolly Intan attended the ceremony. The institute officially opened on August 31, offering 6 classes with 10 to 15 students in each class.

DSU received permission to establish the institute from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the King Sejong Institute Foundation through the “2015 New Institute Designation Evaluation.” The King Sejong Institute was originally founded based on the rapid spread of Hallyu, the international expansion of Korean corporations, and the increase of international marriages. The institute qualifies as an international Korean cultural institute under the laws of the Korean government.

President Chang said, “Over the past twenty years, Dongseo University and Petra Christian University have created many international opportunities for students. And today we celebrate the opening of the King Sejong Institute in Surabaya. We are sure its top-notch teaching will benefit anyone interested in Korean language and culture.”
