My name is Sami Frauq. Before I came to Korea, I expected to do some nice things there. I am ambitious and quickly get used to adapting to new surroundings. I am from Tajikistan, a country in Central Asia. It was a pretty long journey to Korea. When I got off the plane, I was quite excited.

The National Institute for International Education (NIIED) had selected me as a scholarship student, so I could start my life at Dongseo University in Korea. On the first day of school, I was pretty excited and passionate. I was impressed by Korean culture and felt that Koreans are kind. There are many nice buildings in Busan; we can find a mix of the historical, traditional and modern. In addition, there are a lot of places to enjoy Busan’s culture such as temples and historical sites, restaurants, or nice beaches. Busan looks so dynamic and is a unique city.

I experienced some difficulties when I started studying in Korea, especially with the language. As you know, undergoing adversities makes people stronger. I faced up to any problems with help from people at DSU. Therefore, I could learn and develop myself to adapt to the new environment.

There are many programs which foreign students can join such as the Buddy Program, Music Club, or Health Club. I recommend foreign students join these programs so that they can experience Korean culture, history and life. DSU especially shows an international side and looks very charming, because many foreign students are studying here.

While studying at DSU, I felt I improved my Korean and learned to accept different cultures. Moreover, I have been learning about communicating with people and adapting to a multi-cultural and international education environment. If one experiences difficulties and failures, he or she should try to stay positive! It is normal to have some troubles studying abroad, but any problem I had was resolved. My situation improved little by little every day with the help I received. People should do take steps to achieve their goals. Every beginning is difficult, but people must never give up. One day, they too can taste the sweet fruits of success!

My life and academic achievement at DSU exceeded my expectations. I am honored to have become a part of DSU. I want to show my gratitude to DSU and to the Korean Government. This experience allowed me to meet great professors and kind office staff in my Korean student life at DSU in Busan! Thank-you!
