On June 18, Dongseo University (DSU) and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL) held a graduation ceremony for the first 115 graduates of the Korea-China International Education Institute. Since 2011, when DSU became the first Asian university to receive official ratification from the Chinese Ministry of Education for establishing a 4-year joint education program in China, the Korea-China International Education Institute has enabled the export of world-class Korea educational contents.
The initial focus was on Animation Studies, but this was expanded to include Visual Studies in 2012. A total of 842 Chinese students are currently enrolled in the Animation Studies and Visual Studies departments. The students learn Korean in their freshman and sophomore years, and then come to Korea to study at DSU for one year.
The Korea-China Education Institute promises to be a great boon for its graduates as they look for work. Before the first class of Animation Studies had even donned their graduation caps at the June 18 ceremony, an impressive 42% of them had already acquired jobs at Youku, China's alternative to YouTube, and university officials are confident that every one of the Animation Studies graduates seeking employment will get a job by the end of this year.
Some of the graduates, however, have chosen to pursue advanced degrees instead of entering the job market immediately. Eighteen graduates have decided to study in Korean graduate schools. Another two of the program's graduates are enrolling in Chinese graduate schools on full scholarships in Wuhan University and Shanghai University, respectively. And one other graduate has chosen to study in England.
In the students' own words:
Qiu Jiayi (Male): I learned so much in my four years in Animation Studies. I have grown a lot, not only professionally but also personally. My classmates and I now feel like we have so many options for our future. Personally, I am going to continue to upgrade my skills by pursuing a graduate degree at Dongseo University in Busan, Korea. I am making a clear plan for my course of studies. I am sure I will get helpful assistance from professors and fellow students at DSU. I believe I can look forward to many great experiences in my future. I think all the students in our program should consult our professors to get the best advice for their academic and professional careers.
Wang Shuangshuang (Female): Our university gathered students from around the whole country and gave us a global perspective on the world. My four years in university flew by so fast! I learned and felt so many things while studying. My classmates and I saw the development and growth of the program as its first graduates. I really appreciate the help of my professors in the Korea-China Education Institute. They took such good care of us for four years. I am now preparing to study in graduate school at Dongseo University. I know I will get assistance from my fellow students and friends as well as helpful advice from my professors. I hope the Korea-China Education Institute continues to produce top graduates, always helping and pushing its students to improve every day.
