We are excited to reveal the winners of the SDGs Design International Awards 2023, who have showcased exceptional talent and innovation in sustainable design. This year's winners have demonstrated extraordinary creativity and commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals.

Gold Award

Title: BLOCK & MEMORY: Orientation walking ability training AIDS designed for visually impaired children

Winners: Hongxu Luo, Jiayi Han, Xinrui Chu (Dalian University of Technology, China)

About the Project: 5-10 years old is the golden period for blind children to develop directional walking ability. But take China as an example, families and schools in many countries and regions do not pay enough attention to it.

Therefore, we hope to design a teaching AIDS system to provide a scientific way for preschool blind children to develop spatial sense and orientation ability in family education.

This can lay a foundation for blind children to learn directional walking systematically in the future, enhance children's self-confidence, and reduce the pressure of parents.

Silver Award

Title: Pieces of Peace

Winners: Hao Cao, Masao Oi (University of Tokyo, Japan)

About the Project: “Pieces of Peace” is an education tool for children who have grown up in an era without war using parts extracted from photos related to war to allow them to connect and think about their own lives in relation to wars that have occurred in distant times and places.

The pieces are abstract elements taken from people, objects, and environments in war photographs. In times of peace, these same shapes can take on entirely different meanings and functions, reminding children of the value of our peaceful daily lives.

With the decreasing number of generations that have experienced war and the diminishing opportunities for people to think about peace in a personal way, this is a new form of education that distinguishes itself from traditional textbooks, emphasizing hands-on learning and also integrated with children’s personal growth experiences to make peace learning more interesting and reflective.

We carefully select war photographs from different countries and time periods, making sure to avoid extremely graphic scenes. We design these photos to encourage viewers to think from the perspective of "children like themselves." This approach aims to enhance understanding of the multifaceted nature of war while being mindful of its psychological impact.

Bronze Award

Title: Cosmic Education - for the past, present, and future.

Winner: Shruti Umesh Chakke (IED - Istituto Europeo di Design, Turin, Italy)

About the Project: Aim: We aim to revolutionize learning by exploring innovative knowledge transfer methods that go beyond traditional classrooms. Our goal is to foster a profound understanding of life and the world, transcending the constraints of conventional educational models.

Target User: Cosmic Education is a versatile and inclusive approach designed to benefit learners of all ages. It offers a unique perspective on learning that goes beyond the confines of traditional subjects and is adaptable to individuals at any stage of their educational journey.

Appealing Point/Innovation: Our central innovation revolves around the Cosmic Education concept, complemented by the Cosmic Toolkit. Cosmic Education offers a transformative learning experience, immersing students in nature-based courses, practical environments, and hands-on studies,
