DSU Students Receive Prestigious Awards

Dongseo University students have displayed outstanding talent in various fields, including those of broadcasting, game development, and design. Some notable highlights are described here.

Grand Prize in the 7th KBS New GenerationVJ Contest

Nam Kyung Woo and Kim DoJung, seniors in Broadcasting and Media Studies at DSU, were awarded a grand prize of five million won at the contest. The award ceremony was held at the KBS head office in Seoul on November 23rd, 2010.
A total of eleven works made it past the preliminary rounds into the final, and from these seven works were selected for prizes. The prize-winning works were showcased on a special KBS program that was televised in December.
Receiving the grand prize was the work titled ‘Our Own Exposure,’ which is approximately eight minutes long and depicts contemporary man through a virtual reality, the internet, smart phones and other media. Its focus is on the gap between virtual reality and actual reality, and it represents the gradual loss of our own true identity.
Prof. Oh Jong Seo, who is their advisor, said, “Our university has already achieved recognition at home and aboard for its outstanding ability. When comparing the works entered in various contests, the projects submitted by DSU students are certainly distinguishable from those from other universities. I will encourage students to compete not only at home but also in international contests in the future.”

Grand Prize in the 2010 Korea Indie Game & Game Idea Competition

Students majoring in game development were awarded many prizes in the 2010 Korea Indie Game &Game Idea Competitionwhich was hosted by the Korea Game Developer Association and was sponsored by the Korea Creative Content Agency, the Korea Game Industry Association, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Yoon Jong Yoon, a sophomore student majoring in game development, entered an idea for a game, “Sylph, Elf of Wind” for the Nintendo DS platform and was awarded the grand prize of 1.5 million won. Mr. Yoon revealed his feelings about having received the award, saying that he was very pleased to be given a big prize like this and would endeavor to be a good developer of games in the future. Four other teams, including “D-vision” with a game called “Gayami,” were awarded honorable mentions.
The Korea Indie Game &Game Idea Competition is a festival for students majoring in game development and for other developers. It has been held annually since 2003.Prize-winning works at this contest contributed to raising the status of Dongseo University as they were displayed at G-star 2010, which was held at the Busan Bexco from November 18th to the 21st.

Award for Excellence in the 9th Livart Design Contest

Tan Zhi Yu, a Chinese international student enrolled in the Graduate School of Design at our university, was presented with the award of excellence (worth 500,000 won) in the field of space design at the 9th Livart Design Contest. His winning project was titled,“Mobile Ray Beam.” The Livart Design Contest is an open exhibition representing the living culture and space design of Korea.
