DSU and WeMade Agree to Donate One Billion KRW in Cryptocurrency to Development Fund

Dongseo University President Jekuk Chang and global game company WeMade Co., Ltd. CEO Henry (Hyun Guk) Chang have signed an agreement to donate one billion won worth of the cryptocurrency WEMIX to a development fund that will support research and academic activities, including blockchain technology research at Dongseo University.

Dongseo students working on DSU’s in-house metaverse platform will benefit through the use of WEMIX cryptocurrency for the education program of the SW Centered University Project Group. The university will also foster talent using the development fund and seek further ways to develop the partnership with WeMade, including through employment opportunities for DSU graduates.

Cryptocurrency donations incorporating blockchain technology are a recent global trend and are actively funding various ongoing projects around the world, such as the renovation of prestigious U.S. universities and the restoration of French cultural assets.

“The relationship that began with G-Star’s donation of masks two years ago has been extended through the WEMIX donation,” said WeMade CEO Henry Chang. He added, “WeMade will continue to play a role in fostering blockchain technology talent to innovate in all fields.”

DSU President Jekuk Chang said, “Dongseo is at the forefront of content specialization in Korea and has recently become a hyper-realistic content specialized university based on its convergence of IT, artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency technology, and cultural contents. This donation to the development fund will help in building a global platform in line with DSU’s specializations in IT and cultural contents.”
