Asian University Presidents officially adopted the Busan Statement of 2012 Asian University Presidents Forum
“We acknowledge our commitment to the ideas it contains regarding the further strengthening of the academic communities of Asia and of the Asian University Presidents Forum.”
Brief Summary of the Three Articles of the Busan Statement
- Asian Summer Program 2013 shall be held at Dongseo University.
- Guangdong University of Foreign Studies shall be established as the Secretariat of the Asian University Presidents Forum.
- University Malaysia Perlis in Malaysia shall be the host of the Asian University Presidents Forum in 2013.
The 11th Asian University Presidents Forum ended with the declaration of the Busan Statement on October 31st, 2012.
In the closing ceremony at the Grand Hotel in Haeundae, presidents of 68 universities from 17 countries jointly agreed to adopt the Busan Statement.
The Busan Statement says, “Given the large-scale influx of global wealth and economic power, the leaders of higher education in Asia share a deep responsibility to prepare graduates for the coming environment.”
It also stresses that “programs aimed at developing multilingual competency, increasing understanding of cultural diversity, and nurturing creative abilities have the potential of fostering future leaders at both national and international levels as well as increasing solidarity and regional integration within Asia.”
In addition, it announced that “pursuant to these objectives, the following resolutions have been made to deepen the cross-cultural understanding of students from the diverse countries of Asia and to further the achievements of the Asian University Presidents Forum.”
The Following are the three articles of the Busan Statement
1) The Asia Summer Program, which is a three-week credit-based program initiated by five AUPF member universities, shall be recognized as an officially affiliated program of the Asian University Presidents Forum. Also, ASP 2013 shall be held at Dongseo University.
2) Guangdong University of Foreign Studies shall be established as the Secretariat of the Asian University Presidents Forum. Its status as a sponsor of the Forum, its early hosting of the Forum, its international character, and its continued participation since the Forum’s inception make it ideally suited for this role.
3) University Malaysia Perlis in Malaysia shall be the host of the Asian University Presidents Forum in 2013.
