DONGSEO University launched service design curriculum in 2010 for the first time in the Republic of Korea. Since then, we have developed and implemented diverse projects and educational models. In 2020, especially, we were named under the topic of ‘Service Design’ by the 4-step BK21 Service Design-based Social Innovation Education Research Team. We target to nurture research talent for 7 upcoming years.
We aim to help students build basic competencies as service designers such as empathy, analytical and planning skills, coordination ability and expressiveness, perform research with local authorities and companies to handle diverse problems and develop corporate service strategies and produce top academic papers and talent by developing a successful service model.
For the past decade, there have been diverse social innovations across our society. In particular, a regional innovation model through a nonprofit organization and community network has been more productive and sustainable under the government- and business-led social structure. In other words, a social innovation model has spread in social complexity. Since social innovation is led by the local community and citizens in a down-top, not top-down, approach, this course studies service design methods and models to resolve diverse community issues, using designers’ creative thoughts.
Develops and examines diverse business models in cooperation with local authorities and businesses to handle local issues under four different categories: Result-oriented Service, Sharing Service, Continuity Service, Demand Management Service
