The 10th Korea-Japan Next Leadership Scholarship Forum was held on June 29th and 30th at Dongseo University. It included a special International Scholarship Conference at DSU’s Centum Campus. The main aim of the annual forum is to provide a venue for young scholars in the Humanities and Social Sciences to exchange research ideas concerning leadership roles between Korea and Japan. The two-day event involving research talks and debates was attended by 250 participants from Korea, Japan and China.

In his opening remarks, President Jekuk Chang said that the East Asia situation has been drastically influenced by the rise of China and by the U.S.'s diplomatic return to Asia over the last decade. Since the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan in 1965, there have been many ups and downs; recently however, diplomatic relations have come to a standstill. President Chang suggested it was time for a paradigm shift in approaches to diplomacy. He thus declared "Creation and Succession" as the main theme for discussion at the conference.

Presentations and debates were held on topics which included International Relations, Politics & Law, Economy & Management, History, Language & Literature, Society & Gender, Religion & Ideology, Folklore & Humanity, and Culture & Art. A special forum, chaired by President Chang, was also held with invited guests Shim Kyu Sun, Head Editor at Dong-A Il Bo, and Wakamiya Yoshibumi, former Editor-in-chief of Asahi Shimbun and Professor of Japanese Studies at DSU.
