On July 2nd, 2010, the 15th International Tech Corps assembled in the International Cooperation Hall lobby, swearing to return after performing their volunteer activities in Indonesia. Three days later, on July 5th, they departed for Indonesia, led by Professor Lee Byung Gook. The volunteer group has thirty-one members: twenty-eight students, Head Professor Lee, and two staff members, Gong Sung Moo and Ko Hoon.
They performed volunteer activities in six villages in East Java, Indonesia, from July 5th through August 9th. They gave children English, Science, Computer, and Taekwondo education, exchanged cultures with local residents, gave technology support and improved living conditions. The Korean students worked together with students from Indonesia, Japan, Hong Kong and the Netherlands, which helped them to cultivate a global mindset.
The Tech Corps arrived back in Korea safe and sound after completing thirty-five days of volunteer activities. On August 11th, 2010, a welcoming ceremony was held in the UIT Building for all of the students involved. The students who participated in the ceremony felt a sense of pride and maturity. For the 15th anniversary of International Tech Corps voluntary service, Petra Christian University in Indonesia sent an appreciation plaque to Dongseo University.
President Park Dong Soon said in her welcoming speech, “I am very grateful for the return of all the students without any incident. I hope that you have fostered excellent personal developments through this experience.”
