Dongseo University professors have helped elevate DSU's status both domestically and overseas through many exciting activities over the summer vacation. They have been honored for presenting a high level paper at the international conference, and also for generously using their professional knowledge and technology for the nation and local community.

Firstly, Professor Ahn Byung Jin of the Division of Design presented a public design project in Haemaruchon village, which is close to the DMZ, for which residents involved, newspapers, and television stations have all praised him highly. Professor Ahn, who is the Director of the Public Design & Lighting Research Center, produced environmentally-friendly sculptures and murals with the assistance of twelve students from the Division of Design in Haemaruchon village in Gyeonggi province from July 12th to 18th.

Professor Ahn said, "I started the project at the request of the village head of Haemaruchon. I am very happy to have pleased the residents of the village. The students who participated in the work also said that this project was meaningful, because through it they realized that design can change the world."

Next, a paper by Professor Lee Wan Soo of the Division of Visual Communication was selected for the 3rd place award by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC), the largest association in the U.S. in the fields of journalism and media education. The paper’s title was 'Business Size and Media Effects: An Examination of Econo-Psychological Factors,' and it was the first time for a Korean scholar to be honored by the AEJMC. Professor Lee presented the paper at the 2010 AEJMC annual conference, which was held in Denver, Colorado in the U.S. from August 4th to 7th. His paper gained the award after going through the jury's strict selection process. Professor Lee said, "It is very difficult for a foreign scholar to present a paper at AEJMC. Moreover, I'm honored to have received an award.”

Finally, on July 5th, Professor Im Baek Bin of the Division of Leisure & Sports Science was given the Citizenship Award by Busan Metropolitan City Council for his contributions to the promotion of citizens’ health. This year fifteen citizens including Professor Im received the award.

At present, Professor Im is a consultant for the Busan Management Center for Health Promotion. Recently his four stage project 'Brain Busan 21' was selected by the Busan Human Resources Development Institute, in which he is taking the initiative in research and activities for improving Busan citizen's health, including senior citizens’ leisure promotion.
