Chapel & Public Service
Chapel
Dongseo University supervises the Chapel to understand the truth of Christianity to realize the founding ideology “Realization of Christianity spirit” and to enrich our psychological and spiritual life. Student chapel on the contrary to chapel service, is during school hours, not on the weekend, with believers and nonbelievers together to learn the value of Christianity to recognize their own belief and change their personality to develop the leadership for society, country, and the world. Main programs are worship, prayer, and creating messages with various types of cultural genre. Freshman, Sophomore, Junior shall take the chapel class as a mandatory class, the measure of the grade for a freshman, and a sophomore is “P”(pass), for a junior it is 1(credit). The venue is an auditorium in Industry & Academy cooperation hall. The grade will be calculated by attitude and attendance and students shall sit on their own seat to get an attendance. A student will get a “P” or “1” credit when they are absent from the chapel less than 3 times, however, when the student is absent from the class more than 4 times, they will get an “F” credit.
Public Service
Through the activities on campus globalization (or) local public service, students can share and understand many different cultures. Furthermore, students can grow their ability as global leader and be inspired the pride as Dongseo students.
English1
This course will introduce students to the English language program at Dongseo University. The course will build on the high level of English proficiency the students have by focusing on English for specific purposes. Through directed practice, students will become familiar with more advanced language. Real world opportunities will be provided to give students the chance to practice the language they have learnt. These opportunities will include; job/university interviews, group work, expos, videos and presentations. Students are expected to take an active role in their studies through classroom participation. The course is designed for students with an IELTS level of 5.5 or above. Students will take full advantage of the wealth of reading materials available in the IC office. Students will read two magazine articles and discuss the articles with their classmates. Throughout the semester the I.C. department will run various competitions, including cultural competitions and essay writing competitions. Students will be encouraged to enter these competitions and use their entries as assignments in this class.
Character Education and Course Plan
The main purpose of this class is to guide the students as a team. This class will help the students understand better on the global era hence students can learn how to plan and prepare their future. Furthermore, students will be taught fundamental knowledge to be a global leader. To do this, this class pursues the teaching method to maximize the interaction between professor and students such as group discussion.
Design and Creative Thinking
Through practices of design thinking founded upon the 'design mind' that includes uniqueness, creativeness, and usefulness, creative thinking will be nurtured. Moreover, creative design methodology, as well as theories on modeling, innovative design process, and problem-based learning (PBL) will be acquired through experiential learning, and these theories will be systemized through debate, group projects and activities. As a result, creativity and overall problem solving -Through various means, such as video clips and special lectures by experts, creativity will be developed. -Through assignments 1 and 2, innovative ideas will be visualized and constructed into real products.
English 2
The course will focus on presentations. Through directed practice, students will become familiar with the more advanced language related to presentations. Students will learn how to engage their audience and deliver presentations that leave a lasting impression. Students will incorporate all four language skills in their presentations, students will use their reading, writing, listening and speaking abilities from researching of their topic through to the final presentation. Students will also reflect and critique their classmates presentations and offer constructive feedback. Students are expected to take an active role in their studies through classroom participation. Students will take full advantage of the wealth of reading materials available in the IC office. Students will read two magazine articles and discuss the articles with their classmates. Throughout the semester the I.C. department will run various competitions, including cultural competitions and essay writing competitions. Creative Thinking & Composition
This course focuses on writing as a process with emphasis on essay organization, sentence structure and style.It will guide students through the steps of the writing process to produce the well-organized, clearly developed essays that are essential to academic writing in English, Furthermore, extensive practice will be given to the students in order to assimilate writing in English. Furthermore, extensive practice will be given to the students in order to assimilate writing skills and write with accuracy.
Critical Thinking and Communication

Students will incorporate all four language skills in their debates, students will incorporate their reading, writing, listening and speaking abilities from the research of their topic through to the final presentation. Students will also reflect and critique their classmates debating points and offer constructive feedback. Students are expected to take an active role in their studies through classroom participation. Students will take full advantage of the wealth of reading materials available in the IC office. Students will read two magazine articles and discuss the articles with their classmates. Throughout the semester the I.C. department will run various competitions, including cultural competitions and essay writing competitions. Students will be encouraged to enter these competitions and use their entries as assignments in this class.

The course will focus on Academic English. Through directed practice, students will become familiar with the more advanced language related to academia. The course will provide practical communicative experience by stimulating real life situations for the students to use English. Students will take part in activities that will improve their English and allow them to communicate in English at an academic level. Each of these activities will develop a section of their English ability. Students will incorporate all four language skills in their work. Students will also reflect and critique their classmates English and offer constructive feedback. Students are expected to take an active role in their studies through classroom participation. Students will take full advantage of the wealth of reading materials available in the IC office. Students will read two magazine articles and discuss the article with their classmates. Throughout the semester the I.C. department will run various competitions, including cultural competitions and essay writing competitions. Students will be encouraged to enter these competitions and use their entries as assignments in this class.
D-MAP Motivation

Field Studies
This course aims to develop students’ professional skills in related area. There are two options to get Pass on this course – either by taking internship (with required number of hours) in a company or organization related to a student’s major or by doing special study or lab research throughout the semester. In first case, internship should be taken before registering for the Field Studies course (i.e., in summer or winter vacation) and then appropriate reports and documents should be presented in the following semester. Otherwise students will have to participate in professor’s lab work (take a part in some project) or do another assignment or study which will enhance their professional skills in related major.
