[NEWS] Dongseo University’s Strategic Design Support Activities Shine in Busan’s Bid for WDC 2028

Dongseo University Demonstrates the Power of Glocal Design Education on the Global Stage
Dongseo University played a meaningful role in Busan’s successful bid for the World Design Capital (WDC) 2028, further solidifying its position as a glocal design education institution connecting local communities with the global stage.
On June 17, 2025, an evaluation delegation from the World Design Organization (WDO) visited Dongseo University as part of the official WDC 2028 Busan inspection program. As the only WDO member university in Korea, Dongseo University welcomed the delegation to campus and introduced its identity as a global design education institution alongside its ongoing contributions to the local community.
The campus visit was strategically organized to showcase the university’s educational vision and practical design initiatives. The program included a welcome tea session with the university leadership, an exhibition of virtual exhibition space design projects created by students in the Korea-China joint education program, presentations highlighting design practices connecting global and local communities, a screening of a media art project reinterpreting the traditional Dongnae Hakchum intangible cultural heritage, a commemorative gift presentation, and a photo session.
Hosted in English by an international student from Indonesia, the event featured undergraduate and graduate students presenting their global and community-linked design projects and research cases directly to the delegation. Students guided visitors throughout the campus in English and actively participated in Q&A sessions, naturally demonstrating Dongseo University’s internationalized educational environment.
The visit served as an opportunity to highlight how Dongseo University has embodied a balanced model of community-oriented education and global collaboration under the slogan “From Campus to the World, Rooted in Community.”
Through continued collaboration with the WDO, Dongseo University plans to further strengthen its role as a leading institution in Asian design education. The university will continue building a truly glocal design ecosystem in which local communities, global networks, and international students grow together, while actively advancing its educational philosophy of “social contribution through design.”
