Introduction to acting department

 

Dongseo University's Im Kwon Taek College of Film and Arts, Department of Acting, is the only program in Korea that offers education in the method acting system. We prioritize expertise by fostering collaboration with the film department and actively engaging with the industry. Our department specializes in acting, directing, production planning, lighting, sound, stage art, and makeup.

In addition to our specialized curriculum, we provide a wide range of training programs to enhance your career as an actor. Under systematic guidance, our recent graduates have successfully established themselves as recognized actors and stage technology experts in various fields, including film, theater, and television dramas.

Curriculum

 

In the first-year course, students embark on a journey of self-discovery while laying a solid foundation in acting. This involves training in acting fundamentals, physical action memory, and enacting various scenarios.

In the 12th-grade course, students delve into the fundamentals of acting postures and character diversity through observational classes and role-building exercises. They acquire the essential skills for performing in diverse situations.

In the 3rd and 4th-year courses, students utilize the Sohyang Experimental Theater, a black box-type theater within the department. Building upon the foundational skills gained during the first and second years in the 1,000-seat Sohyang Theater, students learn to express practical stage acting abilities through semester performance workshops.

Furthermore, through courses that connect with the film department, students have the opportunity to engage in experiences related to film production, enriching their journey as actors.

Strengths of acting

 

International Exchange: We offer on-campus overseas training programs such as S.A.P and GELS to encourage diverse international activities and promote internationalization through collaborations with the Acting Department of China Diagnostic Academy.

Collaboration with the Film Department: We provide numerous opportunities for actors through our partnership with the Film Department, which produces award-winning works like the Rome International Film Festival grand prize winner, 'Jeongsun.'

Gong Master Class: Students benefit from special lectures by renowned celebrities, including movie directors and producers. Additionally, we organize regular auditions for production companies and talent management agencies that visit our campus directly.

Various Clubs: We have a range of clubs, including 'Incubator,' a creative theater research group aiming to develop professional actors, 'Siuter,' a traditional performing arts research group that blends tradition with innovation, and 'Identity: Stage Professional,' which allows members to refine their speaking skills while producing engaging content.
