“Inclusive Design in the Post-Human Era” Successfully Concludes
On Thursday, June 11, 2026, Dongseo University’s College of Design and the Asia Design College Consortium (ADCC) hosted ADCC Forum 2026 at the conference room of BEXCO Exhibition Center 2 in Busan. Under the theme “Inclusive Design in the Post-Human Era,” this year’s forum brought together speakers from across Asia and the global design community to discuss the future of inclusive design.
The forum was held in connection with the launch ceremony of Dongseo University’s STELLAR Arts Institute, which took place the previous day. Through the establishment of STELLAR Arts Institute, Dongseo University announced its commitment to innovation in arts and design education in response to the age of artificial intelligence. ADCC Forum 2026 further served as an opportunity to explore the future expansion of Asian design education cooperation networks.
The forum was held in connection with the launch ceremony of Dongseo University’s STELLAR Arts Institute, which took place the previous day. Through the establishment of STELLAR Arts Institute, Dongseo University announced its commitment to innovation in arts and design education in response to the age of artificial intelligence. ADCC Forum 2026 further served as an opportunity to explore the future expansion of Asian design education cooperation networks.
In her opening remarks, Prof. Juyoung Chang, Dean of the College of Design at Dongseo University, introduced the meaning and vision of ADCC. She emphasized that ADCC can serve as an international network that promotes educational cooperation, student and scholar exchange, and joint research among Asian design universities, offering a new model for the future of design education. She also highlighted the long-standing tradition of Dongseo University’s Graduate School of Design in hosting international academic conferences, underscoring the university’s continuous efforts to advance design research and education.
In his welcoming address, Dr. Jekuk Chang, President of Dongseo University, noted that the forum’s theme, “Inclusive Design in the Post-Human Era,” was highly timely and relevant. He emphasized that design today is expanding into a public language that connects technology and humanity, links cities and communities, and embraces diverse conditions of life. He also stated that the value of inclusive design is closely aligned with Busan’s future vision, particularly in relation to the city’s bid to become World Design Capital 2028.
In her congratulatory remarks, Jin Kyung Paik, President of the Federation of Korean Design Associations, reflected on the significance of the launch of Dongseo University’s STELLAR Arts Institute and the longstanding relationship between Dongseo University and the Korean design community. She described the forum as a meaningful occasion to reaffirm Dongseo University’s capacity in design education and to explore the direction of design education cooperation across Asia. She also expressed her hope that ADCC would continue to develop as a platform for sustained exchange and shared growth.
The forum featured keynote speeches by Prof. Gheorghe Teodorescu, founder of the Institute for Integral Innovation; Prof. Makoto Watanabe, Chair Professor at Dongseo University; and Prof. Fei Jun of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in China. The forum sessions also included presentations by Prof. Melanie Sarantou of Kyushu University, Prof. So-Yeon Yoon of Cornell University, and Prof. Kuo Jo-Yu of National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, who discussed the role of design in the post-human era and the possibilities of inclusive design from diverse perspectives.
The panel discussion was moderated by Ken Nah, Master Designer of Busan Metropolitan City, under the theme “Inclusive Design in the Post-Human Era.” Panelists engaged in in-depth discussions on inclusivity in the age of artificial intelligence, the future of inclusive design, and the changing role of design in response to demographic and social transformations. They also shared encouragement and advice for students who will lead the next generation of design.
Moving forward, Dongseo University plans to expand cooperation with domestic and international design universities, research institutions, and regional organizations through the ADCC network. The university will continue to promote academic and educational initiatives centered on inclusive design and future-oriented design education.
